That One Band
Now, I'm sure each and every one of you has watched a television show, seen a film, or listened to a band at some time in your life. Many, in fact. Sure, you might like the Academy Award winners, the ones everybody likes. But there is one television show, film, or band that is very special to you. It's very special, it's weird, it's funky, and it makes you feel like an individual. It's very special to you, because you are the only one that has seen it or heard it. This band defines you as a person.
And it's utter shit.
And I should know, because I have that one band. Johnny and the Hurricanes. And they suck.
They have one good song, "Crossfire." The rest of them are weird instrumental maladies that almost rock. Almost.
But I like Johnny and the Hurricanes because as far as I know, no one else has heard about them. They are great, because no one has heard about them. They are one of a kind - they are my band. They are on the good side of the Johnny and the Hurricanes factor. They are the optimum factor.
And as soon as they started to get popular, I'd ditch them like a 2 dollar whore.
You know, when music critics say that a band has sold out, they really aren't complaining out them abandoning artistic credibility for popular success. They're really complaining that they've lost out on the Johnny and the Hurricanes factor.
That being said, I have my Johnny and the Hurricanes effigy and some lighter fluid readily available for when they become popular.
So remember, that band you like sucks. But everybody has that band. Everybody's in the eye of the hurricane. And as soon as someone forces them out, shit starts to happen.
P.S. I'm watching late-night TBS, and there's a lot of ads for these degree farms like High-Tech Institute, Bauder College and financial aid,. Which is really smart, because who's watching tv at 1 in the morning? Losers who didn't go to school and stay up watching television because they're unemployable.

I don't like bands that suck. To do so serves no purpose but to insult ones own intellect.
Uniqueness and individuality are a one way street. To create makes one unique. To listen does not. (This is why Goths are—and should be—ridiculed.) Consequently, there is no reason to abandon a band because others have discovered it.
You havent done any homework! “Johnny and The Hurricanes®”

1958-2006
Sadly, Johnny passed away on May 1st, 2006. After the Beatles opened for the Hurricanes in 1962 at the Star Club, Johnny moved to Germany…several times in fact. After falling in love with and marrying Sonja Reuter from Hamburg, they lived in both Germany and Rossford Ohio for 10 years in each place. The Hurricanes in later years were mostly guys from Sweden, the UK and 1 from the States.
After 2 tours of Sweden before the holidays in 2005, John mentioned not wanting to do touring anymore. At the time, he and Sonja owned Lion Heart Kennel and were raising Bull Mastiffs in Ohio. They had purchased 80 acres in Arizona, and were planning to relocate. After having purchased a school bus to transport 12 of the very large dogs, he became seriously ill, and passed away at age 65.
I was one of the Hurricanes’ lead guitarists in the early 1970’s. Along with Sonja, we have re-established the website, of which I am Webmaster. She is now in full and total control and ownership of the name, recordings, trademarks, videos, copyrights and all that is or was Johnny Paris™, Johnny and The Hurricanes®, and Atila Records®.
After his 50 year career, the amount of items in Johnny’s personal estate was amazing, and a nightmare of sorts to go thru and catalog. Some items have been received by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and an exhibit is planned for 2007. It will take me quite awhile to even get to all the music, contracts, photos, masters and clippings in all the different formats, perhaps a year from now.
In addition to moderating and being Webmaster of the website, I’m also Johnny and the groups’ Archivist, along with writing songs, and producing other artists. I also have a video company as well. Still associated with Motown Records, along with all the artists, producers, musicians and engineers from Detroit’s early music days, we post often on several historically informative websites called SOULFULDETROIT.COM and SIXTIES DETROIT.COM.*
Thanks for the support, and please keep up with us.

*FYI: The book "The Road through Motown" is coming out by close friend and Hurricane, Ralph Terrana, Motown Records and Tera Shirma Records President, also from Rare Earth. There is a part about me in the Johnny and The Hurricanes® section, in addition to The Hurricanes Family and Friends section of our website.
